Are you starting to learn French? Want to improve? Aiming for fluency?
Thinking of improving your French so that you can speak better and understand more? Maybe you’re planning holidays or have got a property in France and want to make more of your stay there? Perhaps you are considering retiring to France and want to prepare your move? Or it might be a desire to keep your brain active and challenged – all great reasons for improving your French!
I concentrate on building confidence and developing the pronunciation and listening skills that make French more easily understood and help your own French become more fluent, spontaneous and genuine. The French spoken in France is fast, idiomatic and often quite colourful and humorous, it’s such a shame to go over there never getting beyond the salut, ça va stage with people who enjoy good food and great wine … quite possibly like yourself! Allez, learn French and enjoy France more.
French lessons for…
- Property owners. Whether you are considering retiring to France or own a holiday property that you visit irregularly, if you want to get more involved in local life I can help.
- Couples and friends who want to learn together – 2-2-1. It’s less expensive than learning singly and I will make sure you’re both involved. Plus you’ll be able to practise together inside and outside class.
- French for work.
- More mature students. Older students have whole wealth of experience to draw upon. Many have a great English vocabulary and maybe knowledge or smatterings of other languages. Perhaps now there’s time to devote to learning a language? Challenge your memory and give your brain a session in the language gym!
- 1-2-1 lessons – a lesson created just for you.
- Groups – Some prefer to learn in company and I’ve been running groups for years in person and online. I’m always happy to start up a small group or occasionally modulate your group if you’re working without a formal teacher – just ask!
- Teenagers – specific support to help pass your French exams.
But I don’t know any grammar…!
Are you one of those that hated French at school? Convinced you can’t remember anything? Learning to understand and pronounce even a little French can help build your confidence. You can give it a try in those mundane everyday situations that have left you feeling stupid in the past. We can – and will – practise as much as needed, the more times the better!
There are no silly questions.
There isn’t a quantity that is too many mistakes.
I don’t get bored of the repetition.
Some students tell me they feel they ‘failed’ in school, they didn’t pay much attention at all and haven’t a clue how to start learning. A few years on they have bought a property in France and now want to be much more involved in French village life. If you can greet people properly, get the gist, you can start to interact and contribute. You’ll feel you’re respecting the local culture and people and the locals will respond to your efforts. For example, today you’re happy to ask for a baguette, next week you’ll know how to ask for it crispy and say you’ll see them again tomorrow. Perhaps it will come in small steps and yes, it will take time, but it will be hugely rewarding and create happy (and funny!) memories for years to come.
Give me a call on 07747 053588 – we’ll arrange a 20-minute chat in person or online to discuss what you are looking for from your French lessons. At no charge, this short meeting will give you an idea if I am the right person to help you towards the French of your dreams!
