A lesson as individual as you, it’s you the student not a lesson that I teach.
Whether you are preparing for your wedding in France (eh oui!), restoring a property in France or want to learn to give your CV a boost I can help. Maybe you just want to book the occasional one-off lesson to see where your French? Perhaps you feel your French just needs some tweaking or refreshing?
“Kathi offers anxious adults a secure way into speaking French! She teaches in a relaxed and informal manner, and puts the learner at ease. That does not mean that her lessons are ‘ad hoc’ – on the contrary she is highly organised and her lessons are well prepared with a mix of conversation, grammar, podcasts and homework and are always really enjoyable!
Her sessions are tailor-made to meet the needs of the learner. Each lesson builds on the previous, with appropriate revision every few weeks. Kathi will teach around subjects which interest the student, so that her lessons are about real language learning and not simply rote learning. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is pleasure to be with and will take any enthusiastic learner to that momentous point when one can say ‘yes, I speak French’ ! “

Une étudiante modèle
Serena took up French both to communicate with her in-laws and to keep her brain active. She made fantastic progression from her schoolgirl French by combining three things. 1) two classes a week including regular work on pronunciation. 2) listening to French radio for part of the day every day. 3) enthusiastically doing homework and lots of reading on French websites. Here for instance are the websites linked to the radio she’d been listening to. Here’s what she has to say:
Talking more during holidays
Maureen sees me every two weeks for a longer lesson and enjoys the variety of activities we manage in that time. A review of her homework, any pronunciation work which is reinforced by podcasts we listen to, a short piece from the news or a longer text to finish working on at home and some grammar whenever a certain point needs refreshing. Her diligence doing homework and reviewing the notes I take whilst she talks helps her retain vocabulary. Maureen speaks some Spanish, has a go-for-it-anyway attitude and a lovely sense of humour, teaching her French is a pleasure!
Every lesson is prepared with my student in mind and supported by handouts, references to French resources to use at home and supplemented by homework, if wanted, which is corrected at the start of the next session after reviewing the previous session’s notes.
I’m keen on using podcasts and having my students hear a variety of registers and accents in French, but the most important voice in any lesson remains yours. Ring me on 07747 053588 to start your French adventure!
